Incredibly spectacular hairpin bends, towering cliffs and rust-red stone formations that seem to melt in the sun. The breathtaking Dades Gorge is rightly one of the highlights in the heart of Morocco and should not be missing on any itinerary!
From the small town of Boumalne du Dades, it’s about 60 exciting kilometers through the so-called “Gorge du Dades” to the village of Msemrir. The route is easily accessible by any car and leads past many beautiful red Kasbahs, nice villages, lots of Auberges and hotels and the most wonderful rock formations.
Probably the most beautiful section is done at kilometer 26 – here the road winds up in almost crazy hairpin bends on the mountain – from the top a fantastic sight, which one certainly will not forget so fast!
The Dades Gorge can be visited by (rental) car on your own or as part of a guided tour. It should be noted that the route along the narrow serpentines for large coaches is feasible only up to a certain point – book a guided excursion, you should inquire in advance how far you actually drive into the gorge.
In any case, you should plan plenty of time for photo stops!
The last stop for travelers with a regular car is at the village Msemrir – who wants to travel further, needs a 4WD vehicle. The more adventurous can drive from Msemrir over a bumpy mountain track to the Todra Gorge. Here you can find out more about the spectacular 4WD tour!
