  • Easy navigation
  • The track is almost completely renewed and now feasible for all smaller vehicles (2WD and 4WD) – sometimes a bit bumpy and narrow
  • The tour can also be driven in the opposite direction

From Nekob to Boumalne: the route

The tour starts in the small, beautiful oasis village Nekob (or N’Kob) east of the Draa valley.

Here you leave the village and turn left on a perfectly paved, wide road towards Djebel Sarhro (as of December 2018). The ride takes about 25 km through breathtaking Oasis valleys and barren gorge landscapes.

After a total of approximately 30km, the first view of the fantastic twin summits of Bab n’Ali comes in sight. They remind of the famous red table mountains of Monument Valley in Arizona. A wonderful sight! (The peaks themselves can only be reached by hike).

From the Auberge Tazlout, the road climbs, becomes a gravel road and winds its way up the mountain in tight serpentines. Construction work is already in progress (as of December 2018) – it will not be long before the runway is also widened and paved here.

The entire route to the pass Tizi n’Tazazert (2.260m) offers breathtaking panoramic views over the surrounding mountains. These views alone, are worth the drive!

Attention: there is still only a very narrow mountain run – a bit of courage is needed. Theoretically, the entire road can be driven by regular 2WD cars, but larger vehicles or expedition trucks will have their difficulties due to the narrow passages.

From the pass, the runway leads down the other side of the mountain to the valley and after only a few kilometers, meets the broadened, perfectly paved new road that leads through a beautiful plateau.

At the crossroads turn left to Boumalne and follow the tarred road past small Berber villages, herds of sheep and beautiful gorges. After a total of approx. 70 km you have reached the beautiful, wide Dades valley with its gently undulating hills and snow-capped peaks on the horizon.

Arriving on the N10, turn left and soon reach the town of Boumalne. From here you can make your way to the spectacular Dades gorge.
